POKOTABI / YEBISUTEI
えびす亭
Tucked into Takaramachi, Katsushika Ward, YEBISUTEI is an easygoing町中華 (neighborhood Chinese diner) serving velvety sour-and-spicy noodles, fragrant fried rice, house miso ramen, and homestyle sides.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Steaming aromatics of roasted sesame and bright vinegar greet your table the moment a bowl arrives. In Takaramachi, Katsushika Ward, regulars make their way to YEBISUTEI largely for its standout specialty: the house su-ra-tanmen. A piping-hot, gently thickened broth clings tightly to thin noodles, laden with vegetables and other garnishes that warm you through with every mouthful. With its heat restrained enough to let the tangy acidity shine, the bowl makes a satisfying lunch when you are ravenous, or an equally comforting finish to the day.
Beyond the hot-and-sour noodles, the menu offers plenty of choices across the noodle spectrum: a nostalgic Chuka ramen reminiscent of classic old-school Tokyo broth, handmade miso ramen served over thicker noodles, and the generously topped Ebisu ramen. When looking for something heartier, pairing noodles with the wok-charred fried rice—seasoned with house-blended soy sauce—or picking the half-fried-rice ramen set hits the mark. Pan-fried gyoza, crisp-edged and bursting with vegetable and pork juices, alongside tenderly stewed beef or pork tripe (motsu nikomi), pair naturally with a bottled beer or a sour.
The shop centers around an open counter, complemented by a few tables and raised tatami seating. It feels relaxed and unpretentious, making it just as welcoming for a quick solo meal as for a lingering bite. Friendly, unfussy service and brisk work at the wok have kept the diner woven into the neighborhood's daily rhythm for years. On days when only piping-hot Chinese cooking will do, it is the sort of familiar storefront that easily springs to mind.
